Staffelbach, J.J. Orlando, G.S. Tyndall, J.G. Calvert Title: The UV-visible absorption spectrum and photolysis quantum yields of methylglyoxal Journal/Source: J. Geophys. Res., 100, 14189-14198, (1995); doi:10.1029/95JD00541 Data: table, diagram Energy/Wavelength range: 205 - 474 nm Resolution: Temperature: 248 K, 273 K, 298 K Temperature dependence: yes Pressure/Concentration: Phase: pH: Comments: The UV/visible absorption across sections of MGLY as a function of wavelength have been measured at three different temperatures, 248 K, 273 K, and 298 K. The absorption cross sections show only small variations (<=10%) over this temperature range. The quantum yields and products of the photolysis are reported for various wavelength bands between 240 and 480 nm. The dominant pathway for photolysis at wavelengths relevant to the troposphere produces two radicals, CH3COCHO+hv -->CH3CO+HCO. Author to whom correspondence should be addressed: (e-mail address):
