Soc., 95 (7), 2129-2133, (1973); DOI: 10.1021/ja00788a008 Data: diagram, table Energy/Wavelength range: ~ 111 - 200 nm (50000 - 90000 cm-1) Resolution: Temperature: Temperature dependence: Pressure/Concentration: Phase: gas pH: Comments: The vacuum ultraviolet absorption spectra of the chloromethanes and three dichloroalkanes are given with extinction coefficients in the 50000 - 90000 cm-1 region. The absorption assigned as the sigma* <-- n begins at ~ 50000 cm-1 and extends to 60000 cm-1 with the maximum at 56790 cm-1 (~ 176.09 nm). A second distinct region begins at ~ 60000 cm-1 and extends to 73400 cm-1 with a maximum at 71480 cm-1 (~ 139.9 nm). The third distinct absorption is extremely intense (epsilon(max) = 40000 l. mol-1 cm-1 doublet at 75400 and 76900 cm-1. Author to whom correspondence should be addressed: (e-mail address):
