Hosoya, S. Nagakura Title: Spectroscopic studies on reactive intermediates of esterification of aromatic carboxylic acids Journal/Source: Spectrochimica Acta, 17 (3), 324-343, (1961); doi:10.1016/0371-1951(61)80079-9 Data: Energy/Wavelength range: Resolution: Temperature: Temperature dependence: Pressure/Concentration: Phase: aqueous and sulfuric acid solutions pH: Comments: Ultra-violet absorption spectra were measured with a total of nine benzoic acid derivatives under various conditions. An intense absorption band was found for benzoic acid dissolved in sulfuric acid at 260 nm. The band was assigned as an intramolecular charge transfer (CT) band for the protonated benzoic acid.
