Faraday Trans., 93, 2797-2805, (1997); DOI: 10.1039/A701781B Data: table, diagram Energy/Wavelength range: 236 - 344 nm Resolution: 2 nm Temperature: 298 K Temperature dependence: yes Pressure/Concentration: Phase: pH: Comments: The UV absorption cross-sections of methyl, ethyl and isopropyl nitrate between 233 and 340 nm have been measured using a diode array spectrometer in the temperature range 240–360 K. The absorption cross-sections of these alkyl nitrates decrease with increasing wavelength and decrease with decreasing temperature for lambda > 280 nm. The photodissociation quantum yield for CH3ONO2 to produce NO2 and CH3 O was found to be essentially unity at 248 nm. The temperature dependent absorption cross-sections were parameterized. This parameterization reproduces the measured values to within 1 % for wavelengths < 330 nm. Author to whom correspondence should be addressed: (e-mail address):
