Pickett, M. Muntz, E.M. McPherson Title: Vacuum Ultraviolet Absorption Spectra of Cyclic Compounds. I. Cyclohexane, Cyclohexene, Cyclopentane, Cyclopentene and Benzene Journal/Source: J. Am. Chem. Soc., 73 (10), 4862-4865, (1951); DOI: 10.1021/ja01154a116 Data: diagram, table Energy/Wavelength range: 47000 - 65000 cm-1 (~ 154 - 212 nm) Resolution: Temperature: 298 K Temperature dependence: no Pressure/Concentration: Phase: vapor pH: Comments: The far uv absorption spectra of Cyclohexane, Cyclohexene, Cyclopentane, Cyclopentene and Benzene have been measured between 45000 and 64000 cm-1. Values of Oscillator Strengths: cm-1 f-value (calculated from the area under the curve by the formula f = 4.32 x 10-9 Integral Edv) 45600 - 51200 0.01 51200 - 58100 0.19 58100 - 64300 0.20 The oscillator strengths of the first two bands of cyclohexene vapor (0.01 and 0.19, respectively) are slightly lower than those obtained for cyclohexene in n-heptane solution. In the latter case one smooth band with a smooth wavelength tail was observed with an oscillator strength of 0.23 ± 0.05. Author to whom correspondence should be addressed: (e-mail address):
